Description

NGC 55 - Galaxy. Captured over 3 nights in mid-September from Brisbane, Australia. Total imaging time of 12.5 hours

Scope - Bintel BT200 f/4
Camera - ZWO ASI1600MM-Pro
Mount - Saxon HEQ5 Pro
Filters - ZWO 7nm RGB and LUM.

NGC 55 is an irregular galaxy that is 6 million lightyears from earth. Spanning about 50,000 light-years in width, NGC 55 is seen nearly edge-on, presenting a flattened, narrow profile. NGC 55 is producing new stars. This image highlights a bright core crossed with dust clouds, telltale pinkish star-forming regions, and young blue star clusters.

The annotated image shows the myriad of other galaxies in the image, all much further away, ranging to 100's of millions of lightyears.
